David Lamignan Larsen (b. 1981) is a Norwegian visual artist with Nigerian and Norwegian heritage. Raised between Norway and Gabon, West Africa, his artistic practice has been shaped by a lifelong experience of navigating different cultures, identities and perspectives.
Growing up, he often found himself caught between worlds. In Norway he was seen as African, while in West Africa he was often perceived as European. These experiences became the starting point for an ongoing artistic exploration of belonging, memory and identity.
Rather than searching for definitive answers, his work embraces the complexity of existing between cultures. Through painting, drawing, performance and multidisciplinary practice, he creates visual narratives that invite viewers to slow down, look closer and discover their own connections.
Storytelling remains at the heart of his practice. Influenced by both personal experience and West African traditions of oral storytelling, his work balances reflection with subtle humour, symbolism and curiosity.
His work has been exhibited internationally, including exhibitions in Norway, Sweden, Germany and the United States.
